Nuts! The snack that can come unsalted, salted, oven roasted or even glazed. They come in all shapes, sizes, flavors and they are delicious! Nuts are loaded with fiber and heart healthy fats that keep our hearts happy and our mouths satisfied. Even though there are thousands of different kinds of nuts, today we are going to focus on one: The ever-so-amazing HAZELNUT. Wepster001BM by Oregon State University Licensed under CC 2.0 Hazelnuts are the perfect pairing for any dish. Sprinkle some hazelnuts on pasta, salads, add them to smoothies, or you can even snack on them plain! Hazelnut is not the first nut you think of when trying to accessorize a dish, but try it (in moderation of course) and you won't be disappointed! According to Fine Dining Lovers "Hazelnut oil, which is not excessively greasy and slightly sweet, can be used for food preparation and cosmetic purposes. [Hazelnuts] are one of the high-fat foods that is good for you, those monosaturated fats that lower our cholesterol levels. Hazelnuts contain 50-60% fat, 15-20% protein and slightly more than 10% water" (2015). Moderation and correct serving proportions are key when eating nuts, especially the hazelnut. When I think of hazelnut, I think of the deliciously irresistible chocolate spread Nutella. But Is there a way to enjoy the chocolaty deliciousness, and still keep the hazelnuts benefits? YES! You are in luck! We can make a Nutella like spread from the ingredients right from your own kitchen. SALLY author of the Blog Real Mom Nutrition has shared her favorite homemade Nutella recipe. Sally shares, "You'll find that this spread is more mildly sweet than the jarred version and has a more natural texture and flavor". Natural ingredients for our growing children is a perfect combination! Does this sound like something you would like to try? Click the button below to get the recipe and to subscribe to Sally's Blog!
